The first round of the MSC Carpet Cup was held in Nyköping, Sweden. When we arrived at the track we saw a large but very narrow and difficult carpet course. The traction was surprisingly good already and the favourites were turning fast laps on Friday.

Competitors included Swedish Champion Roland Ström, Nordic Champion Kristian Fredricksson, Tommy Bergfeldt and Niclas Nilsson, among others. The full Kyosho team from Sweden attended along with team manager Per Vässmar.

The series is run with 19T motors only this winter, and the control tires are pre-glued VTEC 27. In practice a week before the race, the car felt good so I was quite confident coming into the race. The first pack felt quite good but the car was a little edgy so I made a few adjustments. The first thing I did was change back to the kit springs; this made the car easier to drive especially in high-speed corners. I also took away the front anti-dive and changed back to standard. The car was now close to perfect. I tried a different additive for the qualifications, and the car was dialed.

During qualification I just tried to stay cool and avoid trouble. I quite easily took TQ in all three rounds while improving overall as traction increased. Roland was 2nd and Kristian was 3rd on the grid.

The finals went quite smoothly however my motor broke during the first main while I was leading so I had to rebuild it. The other two finals were good and I won those with a big margin ahead of the other drivers who were bumping and bashing a bit. Tommy Bergfeldt took advantage of this and finished 2nd. Kristian took his Tamiya to a 3rd place overall.

To describe my car, all I have to say is that it was… perfect. Lots of traction and good steering.

I received the new T2’007 car on Friday but decided to practice instead of building the new car. However, I stayed at the track on Sunday for further testing and the new car felt great, especially with Take-Off tires. It had a bit more traction and was better going over curbs.

Results:

1. Alexander Hagberg, XRAY T2
2. Tommy Bergfeldt
3. Kristian Fredricksson
